Introduction

Rocket Mortgage, developed by Quicken Loans, is an online platform that revolutionizes the mortgage process by making it accessible and easy to navigate. As a UI/UX Designer, I worked on various projects within the platform, including internal tools, vendor integrations, and end-user-facing experiences. My role focused on simplifying complex workflows and creating user-centered interfaces that align with business goals.

Problem Statement

The mortgage process is inherently complex and overwhelming for many users, especially those unfamiliar with financial jargon or digital tools. The challenge was to design a platform that simplifies this process, reduces friction, and provides clarity while ensuring a seamless user experience for a diverse audience with varying levels of technical proficiency. There was also a heavy focus on the implementation of a rebrand.


Design Process

Research and Insights

To address user pain points, I conducted stakeholder interviews, reviewed user data, and collaborated with product strategists to identify key challenges in the mortgage application journey. These insights helped shape our design priorities, focusing on simplifying complex processes and addressing usability gaps.

Ideation and Prototyping

Using the insights gathered, I created wireframes and interactive prototypes to explore and test design solutions. This iterative process allowed for rapid feedback from stakeholders and users, ensuring that the designs were practical and aligned with user needs.

Testing and Iteration

Usability testing was a critical part of the process. I worked closely with developers and UX researchers to validate design decisions through real-world use cases, iterating on the designs to address user feedback and ensure a polished final product that maintained design integrity.


Outcomes and Impact

The redesigned workflows and interfaces improved the user experience by streamlining features and paths to goal completion for users. User feedback on our work was positive, and the implementation of rebranded elements was well-received by stakeholders during the company-wide rebrand process.

Reflections

Working on Rocket Mortgage reinforced the importance of empathy in design, especially when dealing with complex financial processes. The project highlighted the value of collaboration across teams and iterative testing to create products that are both user-friendly and impactful. This experience further honed my skills in simplifying intricate systems and designing for diverse user needs.
